New in Office 2010 – Part 2

In the previous part of New in Office 2010 we had a look at the brand new SmartArt graphics of Word 2010. This time, let’s take a closer look on some of the new feature Excel 2010 has to offer.

There’s quite a bit of innovativeness in this new Excel version, but the editors of Office 2010 News found the Sparklines features neatest of the lot.

Sparklines are a new and unique way of producing different kinds of Excel Charts and displaying them within a single cell. This addition helps you a great deal if you need to illustrate the trends of several rows or cells next to each other but don’t want to waste the valuable space on your worksheet and want to keep it pretty but informative.

In addition to Sparklines, Excel 2010 offers many more new features. We will definitely go through the most innovative ones in our later posts, but one that we would like to briefly introduce right now is Cross Sheet References.

By using Cross Sheet References, you will be able to use Conditional Formatting (one of the coolest Excel features since Office 2007, if you ask us) with references to other sheets within the Excel file. Shortly put – there’s no longer a need to do any copy-pasting and to keep duplicates of your information on several sheets – it’s now all dynamic!

Stay tuned as the next part of New in Office 2010 will feature Outlook 2010 and boy there’s a lot new and exciting stuff coming up there!

    Pretty cool stuff!
A few more screenshots would’ve been nice but I guess I can wait a little until I can try it all out myself :)

Haven’t had a chance to take a look myself yet but I’ve heard that the charts options have improved pretty well. Looking forward to future new feature walkthroughs

Yep, there’s alot of new stuff there. I think excel and outlook are the programs that have improved the most, word, powerpoint and others are still the same with only a few new features and just improved looks.

To be honest, I don’t use Excel very much, but this does sound interesting!

For sparklines that work with older Excel version (Excel 2000, XP, 2003 and 2007) have a look on MicroCharts
